In short

After prototyping a mobile app in Bolt.new, I wanted to see how it handled web. Same landing page, two inputs: a visual reference turned into a prompt, and a text prompt on its own. The text prompt won.

The question

Can a strong text prompt get more out of Bolt.new than a visual reference?

For the reference I used a SaaS template from xtract.framer.ai, and built the page for a fictional AI automation brand called Sintra.

Two runs

Run one started from the image. I asked ChatGPT to turn the template into a detailed Bolt.new prompt, with sections, copy ideas and hierarchy. Bolt returned a clickable page almost instantly, with transitions and working CTAs, but it looked basic and drifted from the reference. Run two used text only, with a prompt that spelled out:

  • Brand and tone: Sintra, smart, futuristic and professional

  • Audience: startups and mid-sized companies automating work with AI

  • Every section, from the hero and features to pricing, testimonials and FAQ

  • Style: dark mode, soft purple accents, strong typography

The second run came back stronger: more detailed UI, more tappable actions, better spacing and a more intentional flow.

What I learned

Bolt.new is a fast playground for early concepts. It simulates flow and structure without opening a design tool.

A specific text prompt gave it more to work with than an image did. Describing the intent beat showing a reference.

It doesn't replace product design, but it gets an idea to something clickable very fast.
